Abductee?
Wendell Griggs was the kind of man who lived quietly in the creases of society; a substitute janitor by trade, self-taught electronics hobbyist by night. He had a tinkerer's mind and a loner's lifestyle, with only a long dead mother in his contacts list and a rabbit named Lizzie as his most reliable conversational partner.
Everything changed on the night he disappeared.
Three days later, he reappeared; unshaven, pale, leaking blood from a precise incision behind his ear. He made his way barefoot to the Tacoma, Sudetenland Police Department, clutching what he claimed was a component from a brain implant.
By the time Wendell Griggs walked into the Tacoma Police Department barefoot and bleeding from the temple, the officers had already gotten the call; "Some guy's running through traffic yelling about satellites in his skull."
Wendell was calm now. Or rather, calm enough. He handed over a half crushed canister of something plastic and translucent. "It's a neural receptor casing. They implanted it in my head, but I got it out. Mostly."
