The Open Air Synth Mass of 1979 – Things were beginning to slide heavily into darkie disco and Yamani’s gas lines, while Peanut Carter preached restraint.

One summer solstice, they joined a spiritual techno commune that held sunrise services using synthesizers hooked up to old car batteries. Paul played harmonized arpeggios while Eleanor read poems backwards to echo "quantum intentions." It ended abruptly when someone tried to plug in a hot plate and short circuited the river stage.

The Herbal Legislation Protest Puppet Show of 1982 - They staged a puppet show at the capitol to protest the banning of a particular mushroom. The puppets, hand sewn out of old band tees, reenacted "Mycelial Liberation" with an original soundtrack recorded entirely on a Speak and Spell. A lawmaker tried to have them arrested but ended up adopting one of the puppets, “Trippy Ted.”

The Pirate Radio Phase of 1986 – Perhaps a precursor to the New Age non-phenomenon, out of their converted VW van, they ran a midnight radio station called "Dust and Frequencies," where Eleanor read excerpts from forgotten zines and Paul played field recordings of doors creaking in abandoned buildings, over a diluted soundtrack of Indian flute music, recorded in Hollywood.
