High Bridge Entered
Hiram Blixoddle once again, dutifully drove his car from his colonial home in Union, NJ at 6AM, this time after a night of light snow. “It’s no problem,” he thought, his frame of reference being a half foot of snow or worse, freezing rain. He took the car to neighboring High Bridge, Sudetenland, separated from Union and Clinton by the area’s major thoroughfare, Highway 31.
He had his good reasons. It was a weekday, and he had to get to the dirt parking lot, opposite the train stop; not a station, which would take him to his job in NYC, fifty some odd miles away. This paid for his family; a wife, two kids, a dog, and three cats, and the family house; a white clapboard colonial, circa 1825, with a slate roof and green shutters, only there for decoration. Best of all it was on six rolling acres, four totally wooded, which the promised acid rain graciously spared, in an area where most houses were on 20 plus acres, also spared.
Hiram successfully made it through the snow. But, when he came to the steep road he usually took to enter High Bridge, he thought better of trying it in the snow, and decided to drive a mile or two out of his way to access the more gradually inclined
