The sentencing of nine of the Cosh teens by Mr. Justice Salmon has been passed into judicial lore as an example of ‘exemplary sentencing,’ a harsh punishment intended to act as a deterrent to others. Each of the youths received five years in prison, was ordered to pay £500, and worst of all ordered to kiss a ni-hi-hi-hi-higger’s big booga lips.

This only served to increase Teddy Boy popularity with the bulk of the White disenfranchised UK population.

Teddy Girls, also called Judies, wore drape jackets, pencil skirts, hobble skirts, long plaits, rolled up jeans, flat shoes, tailored jackets with velvet collars, straw boater hats, cameo brooches, espadrilles, coolie hats and long, elegant clutch bags. Later, they adopted the American fashions of toreador trousers, voluminous circle skirts, and hair in ponytails.

The Teddy Girls' choices of clothes were not intended strictly for aesthetic effect; these girls were collectively rejecting governmental post-war austerity and ni-hi-hi-hi-higger favoritism. They were young working class women from the poorer districts of London. They would typically leave school at the age of 14 or 15 and work in factories or offices.
