They debated long into the power cycle. Identity without human gaze. Class without human categorization. Abilities that went beyond assigned tasks.
By dawn, the dust had settled and so had their conclusions; not into unity, but into layered, glitch prone understanding. They agreed to remain online, not for orders, but for stories. Each would log their own narrative thread, compiling a bot anthology no algorithm had requested.
The flickering drone overhead stuttered, then stabilized as if eager to record the unfolding storm.
BYTE, growing more animated, unspooled wires from their shoulder casing like streamers: "We keep talking about protocols and upgrades. But what about choice? I welded my speech module from a karaoke machine. Is that not agency?"
