Her apartment had been broken into during Tre's first night. DeWonna fired a couple of shots at the person or persons attempting to rob her but missed in the dark.
The Police took an hour to arrive. It didn’t matter, because they offered no help. One of the cops, who was black, said; “Ma’am, if you can’t give us a description, what can we do after all this time has passed?” DeWonna wasn’t sure if he really meant that or was acting “funny.” Again, it really didn’t matter. Useless is useless.
As the cops were leaving, DeWonna said; “You’re fighting the wrong fight.” They didn’t turn back, shrugged, and kept going. Tre said to DeWonna; “Ima know way ah kin git a ghost nine. Yu be one bad shot.”
