Chapter 3:
Building Blocks of Web 3.0
Section 1: Decentralized Networks and Protocols
One of the foundational building blocks of Web 3.0 is the utilization of decentralized networks and protocols. Decentralization promotes resilience, censorship resistance, and the removal of single points of failure. Several technologies and concepts enable the establishment of decentralized networks in Web 3.0:
- Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks: P2P networks facilitate direct communication and resource sharing between participants, eliminating the need for intermediaries. By leveraging distributed architectures, P2P networks enhance scalability, fault tolerance, and user autonomy.
- Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT): DLT, such as blockchain and directed acyclic graph (DAG) technologies, form the basis of decentralized networks in Web 3.0. These distributed ledgers enable transparent, secure, and immutable record-keeping, ensuring trust and enabling decentralized consensus.
- InterPlanetary File System (IPFS): IPFS is a protocol that allows the decentralized storage and retrieval of files across a distributed network. IPFS utilizes content-based addressing and peer-to-peer connectivity, making data resilient, accessible, and censorship-resistant.
