Renaissance. Falstaff names other aphrodisiacs as well as he embraces Mistress Ford.

When Mistress Page also appears and hugs Falstaff, the fat knight declares, “Now is Cupid a child of conscience; he makes restitution” (24-25). Falstaff is suggesting that the young god of love must have felt guilty that Falstaff’s two earlier attempts at love were thwarted, and so now the god of love is making up for his mistakes by allowing the knight to take on two lovers at once.
