Celine Wake Up from Her

Sleep Before School

It was the same morning when the same black girl, who had taken the sheet of paper affixed to her bedroom window, also woke up.

Knock!

knock!

What is that?

Who was knocking on her bedroom door?

It appeared to be her parents, knocking to wake her up so she could prepare for school.

“Celine! Sweetheart!”

“Are you still asleep?” Both her parents called out as they stood at her bedroom door.

“Mother! Father!”

“Is that you?” Celine responded as she got up and stretched on her bed.

“Yes, sweetheart!”

“It's time to get up!”

“Can you please get up to get ready?”

“Wake up!” Her mother said.

“Yay! Time to go to school!” She exclaimed to her parents, sitting up on the edge of her bed.

Then, a thought crossed her mind.

What did she remember?

Well, she remembered the sheet of paper she had taken and stuck in the window.

So, she picked up that sheet of paper and looked at it again.

“What is that, sweetheart?”

“What are you looking at like that?” Her mother asked about the paper she was looking at.

“Oh, it's not something bad,” she replied.

“It's just a sheet of paper with some homework I completed.” She added.

But deep down, she knew she was not being truthful.

The paper depicted a portrait of an old black man named Mr. Nortreus, complete with texts.

“Alright, sweetheart!” Her father said.

“We'll wait for you to give us a ride to school.”

“We love you!” Both her parents told her.

“I love you too!” She responded to her parents' words.

Just as her parents closed her bedroom door and left, she got up to prepare for school.

First, she placed the sheet of paper into her school bag.
