Chapter Two

Early one beautiful summers morning, I received a phone call from a female caller who said her name was Susan Jones.  She had gotten my phone number from a business card I had pinned on a bulletin board in a local laundromat advertising psychic readings.  We agreed to meet later in the afternoon.

Susan arrived promptly.  She looked to be in her late thirties, and had short black hair, of which I could tell, it was not her natural hair color, yet it looked becoming.  She had a light complexion which showed off her pinkish freckles and made her blue eyes sparkle.

We no sooner sat down, and Susan asked, “You charge $30 dollars, is that correct?”  She produced the money from her pocketbook.

“I don’t really…” Before I could finish, she thrust the money toward me.  She seemed very anxious, so, I took the money gracefully and placed it next to me on an inn-table.

“So, how does this work?  Do I ask questions or what?” Susan was very impatient.

“Well, you can ask about anything you wish and I will tune in to my guide, who goes by the name Alexander, and see what he has to say, or if you prefer, Alexander will just provide you with information that your spirit companion would like you to know at this time.  So, it’s really your…”

“I got it, so, like whatever…just give me your usual spiel lady.”

Susan seemed very impatient, and even a little condescending in her tone.  I never had anyone act this way before who was seeking a reading.

As I opened myself up to Alexander, he simply said, ‘be strong little one, and just know I am there for you, always.’  He then withdrew.

This too had never happened before.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to explain when Susan suddenly stood up.  I looked up at her face and I admit I was startled, to say the least.

“Evelyn Adams, I need you to stand and turn around; place your hands behind your back.”  She said this as she pulled a pair of handcuffs from behind her.

“What?” Was all I could think to say as I flushed bright red.

Susan leaned down and pulled me to a standing position; whereupon she spun me around and proceeded to cuff me.

I couldn’t think, or even speak.  I was freaking out, to say the least.  I think I was in shock.  She explained that she was an undercover officer and that her and her male partner, who was standing outside my door, were taking me to the police station to be booked into jail.

She read me my rights while I sat stunned in the backseat of their police cruiser crying hysterically.  I don’t remember much of that ordeal; yet, when I awoke the next morning, I was in a cell and dressed in jail attire.

A jail matron came a short time later, and said my court appointed attorney was here to interview me for my appearance before a magistrate.

She let a young man into my cell as I sat up on the small bunk.  I felt dizzy, and that I might actually faint.

“Ms. Adams, I’m Larry Baker, I am your attorney.  I was assigned to represent you after it was determined you could not afford one.”

All I could think to say was, “Okay.”

“I see by your record; you have never been arrested before.  Not even a parking ticket.  That fact will help us a lot.”  Larry said as he shuffled through some papers in a folder.

Energy started to surg throughout my body.  I could feel Alexanders vibration now; he was fortifying me with healing energy.  My mind now seemed clearer and alert as I asked, “Sir, what am I charged with?”

“Please…call me Larry.  Well, you violated article-17 of the city’s criminal code pertaining to Psychics and Fortune Tellers.

You did not obtain a city permit to work as a psychic.  The permit cost’s $347.00 dollars and requires a criminal background check and that you be fingerprinted.  It also states you must clearly display where you perform this service, the rate you charge and provide a receipt to your clients; this is for tax reasons.

Did you not obtain a permit and comply with the city’s code?”

“Oh my gosh, I didn’t even know you had to have a permit in this state.”  I was feeling bewildered.

“Sorry, but the judge won’t want to hear that old ‘ignorance-of-the-law’ line, everyone uses it.  All he is going to ask is one question when we appear before him; how you plead, guilty or not guilty.”

“So, what am I to say?  If I plead not guilty, would I go to trial with a jury?” I inquired.

“No, what’s happened in the past is that the judge can order, if he so chooses, to have you committed for 72 hours of psychiatric evaluation at the state mental facility.

Let me be very clear on this Ms. Adams; you don’t want some underpaid state counselor asking if you hear voices in your head, or if you see or talk to dead people.  I know it’s hard to believe, but some institutions still use electric shock treatments and heavy medications on those they think are having hallucinations’ and stuff like that.”

“Oh, my goodness…if I plead guilty, what will happen?”  I now noticed my left eye was starting to twitch from the stress and strain of this overwhelming ordeal.

“Well, this particular crime, in this city is a ‘Class B Misdemeanor,’ which means the judge can sentence you up to 180 days in jail and fine you up to a maximum of $2000.00 dollars.

Now, I do need to warn you, we are scheduled to appear before Judge Rex Niemeyer, and he isn’t known for his leniency.  He likes giving out maximum fines and jail time.”  Larry said with no hesitation in his voice.

I leaned back against the wall and cupped my hands over my face as I started weeping uncontrollably.  I just wanted so desperately to go home.

Poor Larry, he didn’t know what to do, so he sat quietly as I had my little breakdown.  It lasted only a few minutes and I pulled myself together.

The matron came and announced it was time to go before the judge.  I was led into the small courtroom followed by Larry and the matron.  I stood behind a small podium with a microphone on it.  Larry stood next to me as we awaited the judge’s arrival.

Judge Louise Parker came in and sat down.  She was an African American woman who looked to be in her late fifties.  Picking up the gavel, she struck it twice and the court stenographer stood and read the charges against me.  I looked at Larry about the same time he looked at me; neither of us knew what had happened to Judge Rex Niemeyer.

“Alright Evelyn Adams, how do you plead?”  She was straight to the point; a no-nonsense kind of woman I guessed.

I cleared my throat and said sheepishly, “Guilty.”

“Very well then; I fine you $60.00 dollars to cover court costs.  Pay the clerk and you’re free to go.”  Striking her gavel twice, “Ms. Adams, please approach the bench,” she said as she gave a little wave gesturing me toward her.

Leaning over, she whispered, “Sweetie, my mother has been a psychic for over forty years; do us both a big favor…get your damn permit,” She then smiled and gave me a quick wink.

“Yes, I promise.  Thank you so much.” I was so overjoyed…words can’t describe how I felt.

Larry was so dumbfounded and yet, he too was elated at the sentence I received.  As a goodwill gesture he paid the $60.00 dollar fine for me.

A week later, back home and feeling safe and free, I asked Alexander if what I had just gone through was a lesson or experience, that I had asked for before I incarnated into this lifetime.

He said it was not; that it was the free will of the undercover female officer that set this into motion.  Her mother had been seeing a fortune teller; and this unscrupulous person swindled her out of over six thousand dollars claiming she was channeling her dead husband, which she was not.

Now, after discovering what had happened to her mother, the female officer is targeting any fortune teller or psychic that is practicing outside the legal guidelines.

After seeing your business card at the laundromat, she looked up your name and saw it wasn’t registered for a city permit.  You became her next target.

Alexander also wanted me to know, by using her free will in a detrimental manner toward others, she was opening herself up to incurring undesirable karma.

*Note to Readers:  Karma is simply the balancing of energy.  Energy only changes form, it is never lost.  There is always a reaction, in the same amount of energy, to that which is done by you.  It may not be in the same form, but it is still experienced, sometimes scattered, sometimes in one action, but it is always in the same measurement of energy.  This ensures direct learning by what one’s own actions are creating. This is direct information on what one is doing but also by what one is thinking.  Like attracts like, a law of attraction is not merely a passing fad.  For what you do, there is always a vibration with that of similar consequence.  There is a change coming where people will come to understand that energy must be balanced.  In this lifetime and with other lifetimes, though many are attempting to work out karma in current lifetimes, there is much that is done from one lifetime to the next to balance the energy that is doled out and experienced to ensure that there is a balance.  This does not always mean seemingly good is always balanced with what is called evil or negative, but that there is a set purpose for energy and a set level of energy.  With that being said, it is always possible to create a new direction.  There are those who have created atrocities against life and may move from that quite quickly and do much good to balance the world in which so much negative energy was directed.  However, there are some who will be seemingly trapped by it because they do not experience that act and then learn to move away from it.  Some repeat acts because they enjoy it but are counseled upon return to attempt to allow them to gain the knowledge that was contained within that action.  There is much good in all, that is to say, there is the potential for the good in all to shine forth, but there is not always an influence of good.  It is possible to create what you wish to experience but know that certain trials will be experienced if you planned them before your experience on earth.  Emanating good will give you the impression of release from this karmic operation.  Though know that you attract what you do, you attract by actions and thought.  Know that you may commit a terrible act and you may seem that in order to balance it you must be on the receiving end.  This is the case in some form but know that you may have already done so in another life, or that you will in the next.  There is balance to everything.  A label of karma only explains the nature of balance in the universes and those dimensions the ‘Source of all Life’ has created.
