The Sony Pocket, Daily, and Touch are all gone and in comes the new Sony Reader Wi-Fi. Sony has been in the ereader market for a while now but their newest edition comes with perks some consumers may find irresistible.
The new eReader includes built in Wi-Fi, 2GB of internal storage, a 6-inch touch-screen with E ink Pearl display, weighs 6 ounces and is only 0.35 inches thick and is most comparable to the new Barnes & Noble Nook Touch Reader.
While some consumers may be happy the device includes a headphone jack to listen to audio books if you prefer them, or listen to music while you enjoy your current favourite book, or that it’s easy to turn pages by swiping the screen or at a click of a button, or just like the Apple iPad you can zoom in or out by pinching the screen, and that you can even double tap a word to have it translated…
But the biggest draw for avid readers is the new limited edition Reader Wi-Fi branded with Harry Potter. Sony has partnered with Pottermore, the new site dedicated to the Harry Potter ebooks written by J.K. Rowling. The new device includes a voucher to download the very first Potter ebook as soon as it’s available. Technical goodies aside the extreme popularity of Harry Potter will no doubt make this deal to good to pass up for fans!
Another bonus to sweeten the deal is the Sony Reader Wi-Fi will be offered at a more competitive price of $149 placing it, for the first time, closer to the price of the Nook and Kindle. Look for the new device to hit the shelves sometime in October and get ready to pick your device colour (it comes in white, black or red) and settle in to reading the wild adventures of Harry Potter and the gang.
