1907 Chicago Cubs Season
The 1907 Chicago Cubs season was the first season that the Chicago Cubs became the franchise's name officially, succeeding the Chicago Orphans. The team finished in first place in the National League with a record of 107–45, 17 games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was their second straight NL pennant won by a large margin. The roster was essentially the same as 1906. The Cubs faced the Detroit Tigers in the World Series, which they won four games to none, with one tie, for their first World Series victory.
Brownie went 20-6, .769, with a third best 1.39 ERA, and coming out second and third in numerous other pitching categories during the regular season. In the World Series, he pitched one game; winning his nine inning shutout.
The morning fog off Lake Michigan had a way of settling into the joints, even in July. Brown felt it in the knuckles he didn’t have, in the strange angles of the hand that had become his livelihood.
