Tinker nudged him. “Still got it.”
Brown shook his head. “Got some of it.”
“Some of it’s more than most men ever get.”
Brown didn’t answer. He just watched the field, the players, the sky beginning to dim. He knew he wasn’t the workhorse anymore. He wasn’t the man who threw 300 innings without blinking. But he could still bend a baseball in ways that made hitters mutter on their way back to the dugout.
And for that season; his fifteenth, his thirty fifth year, that was enough.
