WhatisSocialSecurity?
Generally,thetermsocialsecuritydescribesaprogramthatusespublicfundstoprovidea
degreeofeconomicsecurityforthepublic.Thespecificsocialsecuritydiscussedhereisthe
UnitedStatesgovernmentprogramestablishedin1935thatprovidesoldage,disability,and
survivorsinsurance,aswellassupplementalsecurityincome,anincomeforelderlyordisabled
people.
IntheUnitedStates,employersandemployeesarerequiredtopaySocialSecuritytaxes.The
moneyraisedfromthesetaxesprimarilygoestoprovidingbenefitsforthosewhohavereached
