Joshua has just been told the truth about the world. Specifically that no one is left, except a handful of young people and the last of the Elders--a sect of radical environmentalists determined to give the planet a chance to heal from human impact. They've chosen him to lead an expedition in search of remaining human life, and have trained him to sterilize anyone whom he comes across. But to ensure the mission's success, his crew has been told a different story. As they uncover the truth and the incentive behind the lies, together they spiral into an unstoppable adventure of ethical struggle and survival. Download it today!

Mark Lavorato is a street photographer, musician, poet, and novelist. He was raised on the Canadian prairies but has spent most of his adult life abroad, living and working in various countries throughout Central and North America, the Caribbean, and Europe, while often returning for the summer months to run wilderness expeditions for Outward Bound Canada. His second novel will be published in 2011, and his third in 2012, along with his first collection of poetry. VERACITY was his debut novel, and was published in 2007.
Jeffinmontreal accidentally posted his review of this book under another book, which I discovered during a site search. He wrote: "This is a great piece of speculative/philosophical fiction, with action to burn. Lavorato takes a classic story (last survivors on earth after the apocalypse) and uses it to take the reader through some interesting questions about who you can trust and why we are here in the first place. Also manages to throw in some refreshing wisecracking to keep things from getting too dramatic. An excellent first novel, much better than most of the free stuff I've seen (and much of the schlock at the bookstore besides). Worth the time.

I really enjoyed reading the book, I have also enjoyed looking at Mark's photos on the website.
This book does, what it promises to do in the intro, it makes you think, in fact its done such a good job of painting the world in which Joshua finds himself that I can put myself in that situation and do what the author intended - think about what I would do 'when the line that we like to draw between black and white begins to grey, then blur, then disappear?'
Great book. Made you really think. A bit slow at times, but then I just had to read what happened next. Would have liked to read how the crew communicated with the people in the valley.
Awesome book!! Definitely makes you think. Brought up a lot of good philosophical, ethical and moral questions and ideas. And on top of that, it was entertaining! I looked forward to reading each new chapter, and I thought about it when I wasn't able to be reading.
As an editor, poorly edited books make it hard for me to read past all the mistakes; this book was edited quite nicely with very few typos. Refreshing!
An amazing read! You can take your pick from this book - you'll find stimulating questions that prompt reflection on humanity, our environment, yourself...but you're also in for a captivating, exciting, wonderfully-written fiction novel.
Lavorato's writing balances edge-of-your-seat action adventure with offerings of philosophical insights and questions for readers interested in enjoying them.
I am so looking forward to reading his next novel, Believing Cedric, which I think is coming out this Fall (www.marklavorato.com)
The first line is a great hook, but not good enough to get me through the pages of navel lint collecting that follows. Those with more patience may enjoy this.
I absolutely loved this book. Right from the start I was hooked. If you're looking for one of those books you just can't stop reading, I'd recommend Veracity. From start to finish I felt completely enveloped. The concept of the whole book is great, and it will really get your mind going. Very interesting to say the least, with a great ending aswell, I was completely satisfied after completing the book. I'd recommend it for sure.
An excellent book.
Original plot, well written and very thought provoking.
Easy to read, yet a psychologically challenging idea.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and will read the author's next one.
Very Very interesting book! I would have liked to see the "crew" interact with people on the mainland, and the ending was a little disappointing but overall the absolute best ebook I've ever read!
An excellent read, this first novel of Mark Lavorato is a compelling exploration between the nihilist and compassionate sides of our nature. A little slow at times it gathers momentum and becomes a must finish by the half way mark. Go on this journey and come away with powerful questions about right and wrong.

The Lane Fleming collection of early pistols and revolvers was one of the best in the country. When Fleming was found dead on the floor of his locked gunroom, a Confederate-made Colt-type percussion .36 revolver in his hand, the coroner's verdict was "death by accident.
Best friends Matt and Theo passed that old, empty house a million times before. Throwing rocks at it was always part of any perfect Saturday. But what they discover on the other side of that fence is not perfect at all. And when they decide to climb it, they'll never be the same again.
