Not sure how many more times I could stand to read and old man described as a "codger" or a person having "dishwater blond hair". But that would not stop me from reading his two books by any means. A fast paced thriller with intricate plots and well developed characters. The length of the book made it possible really get into it. Other than our baby, everything else was neglected when my wife could not put down The Landlord. Then, when I picked it up, the neglect came from me. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN, EITHER! LIKES this bookThe character named Melvin Briggs just could not be the person he seemed. The author superbly paints him in a manner that convinces you against all your reason that Briggs is not who you reason him to be.
Mr. Merrell's character portrayals snap your linear train of thought to consider multi-dimensional possibilities for all characters in the book. Are people who they appear to be? Don't read the ending first!!!!
