This FREE e-Book is about fact. "I dared not speak even to her, as if there were anything beyond the most common event in life in our preparing thus to leave the house of blood by stealth in the dead of night. She gave me directions - short condensed directions, without reasons--just as you do to a child; and like a child, I obeyed her. She went often to the door and listened; and often too, she went to the window, and looked out anxiously." Download it today!

I was engrossed in this book from the start. I like the fact that the story is told through a letter. It reminded me of Woman In White by Wilkie Collins for that reason. I also liked it because it was more like a short story and only took about three hours to read - I don't always have time to read a long novel. I'd definitely recommend it.
Thanks for making this book available. I have loved Elizabeth Gaskells' most famous novels, and it was real treat to be able to read one of her novels that I had never heard of.
Very well-written, with just the right amount of suspense. It's the type of story you would like to continue on at the end. The only complaint I have is of the abrupt ending. I think it could have transitioned back to the original narrator and had a few loose ends tied up.
I would definitely read more by this author, and absolutely recommend this story!
