REVOLT
Foreword
For thousands of years in every Indian culture throughout Mesoamerica a legend persisted
concerning a teacher-god named Quetzalcoatl who was fair skinned and black bearded.
On the fertile Central Plateau’s of Mexico, known by the indigenous Indians, not as Mexico
but as Anahuac, around 100 B.C. until the middle of the 16th century A.D. there arose
civilizations, which built cities far larger and more beautiful, than the finest cities anywhere
in Europe at that time.
The beauty, grace, and size of the cities, amazed the first European invaders. About 2000
years ago the largest of these cities was Teotihuacan, which in the Indian language, Nahuatl,
means Place of the Gods. (Pronounced Teo-tee-who-are-karn.)
Through force of arms, Teotihuacan united the valley of Mexico and the valley of Pueblo for
the first time in the regions history.
At its height in the seventh century A.D. the city was the Mecca for trade, religion, and
philosophy bringing pilgrims from far and wide, all wanting to join in the security, the
wonder and good fortune that was Teotihuacan.
The population swelled to an amazing 200,000 people, this from a humble beginning when
the population of the whole Valley of Mexico only numbered around 5,000.
The power, wealth and the size of Teotihuacan’s army must have seemed supernatural to the
simple Indian tribes who came into contact with it. This was a city that would last forever; in
all of Mesoamerica there was no enemy strong enough or foolhardy enough to think of
standing against Teotihuacan.
The leading families who ruled for close to eight hundred years were benevolent and cared
for the welfare of their subjects, this became known as the Golden Era and all who came into
contact with Teotihuacan enjoyed good management and justice.
Like all the ages of man the Golden Era was overthrown eventually by greedy, power hungry
men and the rule of government was taken over by the priesthood and a few self appointed
families, this unholy partnership came to be known as the Teoti.
The incredible power wielded by the priesthood and the aristocracy eventually led to massive
corruption of both these arms of government.
The maxim that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely was as true in those
far off days as it is today.
The ruling class changed, from being a benevolent and moral example for all its peoples to
aspire to, becoming instead a victim of its own success and degenerating into a spoilt,
immoral, cruel and dictatorial regime.
Subjugating tribe after tribe and ruling with a cruelty and total disregard for the subject
peoples, both the aristocracy and the priesthood abandoned all thoughts of justice, the dark
cloud of oppression lay across the land.
