Design Your Own Website with WordPress
WordPress Themes – Personalize Your Website!
Before changing a Theme, consider that the Custom Theme you want to install may have different settings altogether.
The principle is still the same, but the structure differs. When creating a new website, choose a theme to use at the start
of your design and from there you can keep designing until finished.
(Before changing a theme, make sure to backup all your files within the “www” folder and to have a backup of the
database files (sql). If you have a populated (content) website and then after one year you decide to change the look to
another theme it’s highly possible that problems may arise during transition. Some errors are just too hard to fix and the
backup can be used to restore the website to a workable state. From there you can choose another theme until you are
satisfied (Error Free). Backups will be discussed later.)
By predetermining the look, feel, layout, colors and functions of a WordPress Theme, you will eliminate a lot of
guesswork and some duplicated design work.
With this tutorial you used the default Twenty Twelve Theme throughout the
lessons. You enabled a few widgets and created a slider or two.
When changing themes, keep in mind that the slider you created might not
work with the new Custom Theme installed. The theme may have its own slider
or its own widgets, specifically designed for the theme.
Changing themes can also mean that some of the attached pictures will not
show on the website as the link path has changed, this is true with slides &
Another great feature Custom Themes offer is the customizability of the themes. A lot of effort goes into developing
these themes by their respected authors, and this only means that the themes are Professional, clean and ready to use.
Custom Themes also eliminates a lot of design work. When building websites for customers, you are essentially a web
designer. Using WordPress, I personally believe you are only an assembler! The work is already done by a professional,
all you need to do is assembling all the pieces to finalise the website. It’s as easy as that!
Once you get familiar with the workings of WordPress and the Database connection, you will start designing quicker and
more efficient. Everyone can design a website.
