A rather slow start but works up to nail biting finale. Just remember the period when it was written.

Breath-taking!! Miss Gwilt, you are one heck of a character- you pierce right through our hearts, keeps us thinking about you a long time after, we hate you but we're not sure! Amazing narration, though a little tedious and unnecessary at places, but the Romance, drama and Mystery are mixed in right proportions. Fortunate enough to have read this book. Thumbs up Armadale(s)!

I loved this book. Really good novel with nice plot. Miss Gwilt is the best character in the book which keeps it interesting.

Two young unrelated men with identical names become devoted close friends. One is raised in luxurious wealth and indulgence, the other in rejected poverty tormented by his father's deathbed confession. The forces of superstition, wealth, greed and mutual love interests contrive to break their bond and possibly separating them forever. Will the terrible secret be revealed or can they overcome these adverse forces?

to hard to read. wording is confusing. I understand it was supposed to be about the 1830's but I don't think it needed to be worded like it was from then.....just went on and on using words & phrases that confuse.
