place. You “fall off” the fad diet because of the lack of variety and this
lack of variety is what makes you crave your favorite foods.
Any extreme diet is a fad diet. Any weight loss is temporary because
most of the weight loss will be fluid and lean muscle. However these
diets do not burn much fat.
Our bodies need a variety of foods because that is the only way we
can consume all the nutrients our bodies need. When we eliminate
entire food groups our bodies will be deprived of vital vitamins and
minerals. To cut out one or more food groups is setting yourself up for
disaster and harmful to your overall health.
The goal is to create a balanced nutritional plan which allows you to
eat foods from all the food groups so that you will receive all the
required nutrients your body needs.
The Four Basic Food Groups:
Grains, cereals, breads, pasta
Vegetables and fruits
Dairy, milk, cheese, yogurt
Meat, protein, poultry, fish
Grains
Breads, cereals and grains give you energy throughout the day as well
as helping to properly clean out your colon which helps protect you
against bowel cancer. If you add only 35 grams of fiber per day to
your diet you can lower the chances of rectal cancer by 67%..
.
Eating grains can also lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of diabetes,
lower insulin resistance, help prevent cardiovascular disease.
In a study that lasted for 12 years 65,000 women it was shown that
the women who included more grains in their diet weighed less than
the women who consumed fewer grains per day.
Dairy
Dairy products help strengthen bones and protect against
osteoporosis.
