A rollicking sea tale set in the Civil War, about a little known Confederate sea-"hijacking" of a Yankee whaler, made more real and involving, because it's written by a descendant of the whaler skipper.
This author, a contemporary descendant of the `Yankee`in this book, is a superior historical researcher, but his skills as an author of `grab you attention`human relationships and reactions, does not equal his abilities as a researcher. I kept reading, hoping to be enthralled with the characters, but ended up just waiting for the end of the book to see out the story to its conclusion. There are also editorial errors in the text (the use of gorilla to describe un-official soldering for example. Interesting sidelight on the Civil War but not a page-turner!
