The angel with a very strange name "Devil" is visiting old an Austrian village trying to "improve" villagers living. But the reality is not what it seemed............. Very profound philosophical satire with lots of uncanny predictions. It is an almost perfect book - perfect in expression of the final drive, in imaginative projection, in tone and tune, in final judgment on the nature of man and the experience of Mark Twain. It is not his major work, but in its small way it is a masterpiece. Those who know and love Mark Twain will always find it as revealing as Huckleberry Finn.
